Asthma

Approximately 25 million people have been diagnosed with Asthma in the United States, and 7 million of these are children.  While Asthma Attacks and Symptoms can be controlled by medications, many continue to search for a means in which to prevent these Attacks and Symptoms all together.

Asthma is a chronic lung disorder that causes the airways of the lungs to over react to allergens and irritants, causing inflammation, narrowing, and the accumulation of mucus in the airways, leading to the wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing that is associated with the symptoms of Asthma.  Why the airways of the lungs over react to allergens and irritants is not understood, and so the cure for Asthma has not been found.  Yet it has been discovered that Stress alters the immune system of the body and increases the magnitude of the airway inflammatory response to allergens and irritants.

Massage Therapy is very effective in relieving Stress and restoring normality to the Immune System.  By disarming the Reticular Alarm System of the body and bringing the Autonomic Nervous Systems Sympathetic and Parasympathetic branches into balance, Massage Therapy can reduce the effects of Stress and reduce the magnitude of the airways inflammatory response, thus preventing the inflammatory conditions that can lead to Asthma Attacks and Symptoms.  Asthmatic patients show better pulmonary function and increased peak air flow following Massage Therapy.
