Lupus

Lupus is an autoimmune disease where the body's immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks normal, healthy tissue, resulting in symptoms of inflammation, swelling, and pain, with damage to the heart, lungs, kidneys, joints, and skin.
According to the Lupus Foundation of America, 1.5 to 2 million Americans have some form of lupus, with women being diagnosed 9 times more often than men, usually between the ages of 15 and 45.

Studies have proven that Swedish Massage is an Effective way to Relieve the Symptoms of Lupus and Prevent the occurrence of Flare-ups, making Massage an excellent addition to any Lupus Management Treatment Program.

Symptoms of Lupus

Relieves Pain: Studies have found that Massage Increases Levels of Endorphins and Serotonin in the Nervous System, Responsible for Pain Tolerance within the Body, which can help to reduce the pain, especially in the joints, caused by Lupus.  Swedish Massage can also help to relieve the tension in muscles that contributes to the pain.

Improved Systemic Function: By promoting the circulation of Blood and Lymph flow throughout the body, Swedish Massage also encourages the Liver and Kidneys to function more effectively, eliminating wastes and increasing the supply of Blood, Oxygen, and Nutrients.

Reduced Stress: Stress has been shown to contribute significantly to a Flare-up of Lupus Symptoms, thus minimizing the accumulation of Stress can be very important in managing Lupus more effectively.  Swedish Massage is excellent at reducing the accumulation of Physical, Mental, and Emotional Stress.  By Relieving Muscular Tension, Increasing Nutrition, and Eliminating Toxins, Swedish Massage Reduces Physical Stress throughout the Body.  By disarming the Reticular Alarm System and turning dominance from the Sympathetic to the Parasympathetic Nervous System, Swedish Massage relieves Mental Stress and stimulates the part of our brain directly responsible for Relaxation and Rejuvenation. Furthermore, researchers at Duke University and the Miami School of Medicine found that Massage also reduces the biochemical levels of Cortisol, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine, which are all associated with Stress.  While at the same time Massage increases levels of Oxytocin and Serotonin, related to feelings of Love and Well-Being.  By aiding to Harmonize Body, Mind and Spirit, Swedish Massage is an excellent means for connecting with the repressed or suppressed feelings that can lead to Emotional Stress.
