Benefits of Himalayan Hot Stones for Insomnia

Approximately 50% of Adults in the U.S. suffer from sleep difficulties, with 20-36% struggling for a year or longer.  One out of Three Adults has Insomnia, though only 20% report it to their Health Care Providers.  Insomnia can cause extreme fatigue, problems with concentration and can adversely affect a person’s mood and health.  While insomnia may be a symptom on its own, it also can be connected to a long list of healthcare problems.

Himalayan Hot Stones help to reduce Insomnia by increasing the concentration of Negative Ions in the air, through topical absorption of minerals, and in the heat that they provide.

When Himalayan Stones are heated by light, the moisture that the salt naturally attracts from the air is evaporated and Negative Ions are created. We have all experienced the peace and calm of being in the country, beach, woods, or mountains.  One of the reasons for this is because these natural settings all expose us to a large concentration of Negative Ions.  Positive Ions are created by the Electromagnetic Radiation from our computers, cell phones, tablets, televisions, microwaves, and all electronic appliances.   Positive Ions increase stress levels, cause fatigue, decrease the body’s immune response, and contribute to disease.  By increasing the concentration of Negative Ions in the air, Himalayan Hot Stones reduce the Stress and Anxiety caused by positive ions, that can lead to Insomnia.

In addition to the atmospheric benefits of Himalayan Hot Stones, when the stones come in contact with our skin, because the minerals contained in the stones exist in colloidal form, they are small enough to be easily absorbed by the cells of our bodies.  The mineral Magnesium specifically works to relieve Insomnia by promoting the production of Serotonin, a  mood-elevating chemical within the brain that creates a feeling of well being and relaxation.   Magnesium is also necessary for the body to bind adequate amounts of Serotonin to reduce the effects of Adrenaline, which contributes to Insomnia.

The Heat from Himalayan Hot Stones also helps to calm the mind and body.  As the Heat stimulates blood circulation and lymphatic flow, it relaxes the Muscles and disengages the Reticular Alarm System.  Thus switching dominance from the Sympathetic Nervous System to the Parasympathetic Nervous System, the part of your brain directly responsible for Relaxation and Rejuvenation.  Insomnia is reduced when the Parasympathetic Nervous System is in control.
